We share your concern over the possible emergencies that can occur when your child is in our care at school. As Minnesotans, we also face the possibility of weather-related emergencies every year. Global events can affect the routines of schools and families as well. The following information is presented to help you as parents and us as educators work together as a team on behalf of your child's safety when emergencies arise.
In the event of inclement weather, the district Severe Weather Team monitors conditions using a variety of sources, including driving roads to evaluate conditions and consulting with law enforcement and transportation agencies.
School cancellations are announced by 6:00 a.m. via district communications channels (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, district and school websites and/or the parent notification system, Blackboard Connect), and local radio and television stations. Exceptions may occur on days when weather or road conditions change rapidly during the morning hours.
We realize that not everyone will agree with each closure decision. However, we make every effort to arrive at the best decision possible. Parents are encouraged to use their judgment to determine what is best for their children. Parents and guardians should notify their children’s school of the excused absence.
Generally, once the school day has started, we will not dismiss early to avoid complications with transportation and child-care arrangements.
This is also a good time to remind parents to make sure your contact information is updated on your child’s emergency form at school, including any cell/work/home phone numbers and email addresses.
