District Committees and Advisory Councils

Bloomington Public Schools offers parents and community members many opportunities to serve on committees and advisory councils. We welcome the input and involvement of our community in our decision-making processes around our District, schools and programs.

Your response will be routed to the appropriate committee for consideration. Please note that each group has its own process for considering and accepting new members.

The American Indian Parent Advisory Committee (AIPAC) is a dedicated group of parents, grandparents and caregivers of American Indian children. High school students are also encouraged to participate.

The committee serves as a vital link between the American Indian community and Bloomington Public Schools.

Monthly meetings are open to the community. Meetings take place at Pond Center at 6 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month. All parents of American Indian children are welcome and American Indian high school students are encouraged to attend. Please join us!

The Bloomington Public Schools Advocacy Council (BPSAC) collaborates with and advises the School Board on legislative matters and advocates for district issues.

The Calendar Committee develops and reviews calendar options, collects feedback and makes a recommendation on which calendar would best meet the needs of Bloomington students for the following school year.

The objective of the CCC is to design an integration plan that meets state requirements and best serves the needs of the targeted community. Members of the CCC are committed to achieving excellence for all students and providing meaningful interracial experiences and education for all learners, in support of high expectations and achievement.

The mission of Bloomington Community Education is to provide engaging high-quality lifelong learning opportunities, enriching the lives of our diverse community.

The Bloomington School District re-established Community Financial Advisory Committee (CFAC) in March 2007. The committee consists of Bloomington business leaders and meets to review school district financial statements and provide advice to the School Board and Finance Department regarding financial issues and emerging industry trends.

The Executive Director of Finance and Support Services provide the administrative and logistical support for this committee.

The District Diversity Advisory Council is responsible for advising the superintendent/designee in all matters concerning diversity and inclusion. The District Diversity Advisory Council provides information to the administration regarding any policy, program, or activity that deals with diversity or inclusion. The Committee interfaces with the City of Bloomington Human Rights Commission, other governmental agencies, schools, and community and business organizations on any matters involving human relations or diversity.

The membership of the DDAC reflects a wide range of contributions by and roles open to men and women of many different races and cultures throughout our schools and community.

Responsibilities of the DDAC

The Bloomington Early Learning Advisory Council is a group of volunteer parents and caregivers interested in promoting the goals of Bloomington Public Schools Early Childhood programs which serve our youngest learners, age birth through 5.

Our work is focused in four areas:

  • Planning events that bring our families together
  • Increasing awareness of ECFE and all Early Learning programs so more families know about them
  • Raising money to support our Early Learning programs
  • Providing feedback to continually improve our Early Learning programs

The Paraprofessional advisory committee addresses the needs of all district general and special education paraprofessionals. The committee helps plan professional development opportunities and provides ongoing support to paraprofessionals. 

The committee meets once a month for one hour in addition to ongoing communication. Sub-committees are occasionally formed to address particular needs.

The Pathways Advisory Committee (PAC) is a School Board-appointed committee of parents and staff charged with reviewing the curriculum process, evaluation results and District plans. The role of PAC is to communicate with parents the activities of the committee, and to solicit comments and feedback on curriculum and assessment issues.

Meeting Dates

The committee meets quarterly during the school year. Meetings will occur on the first Monday of the month in November, March and May with the exception of January due to winter break.

The Special Education Community Advisory Council (SECAC) advises the director of student services regarding current issues, program development, parental concerns and involvement and departmental priorities. Its mission is to provide input to the Bloomington department of special education, to serve as a communication link with the Bloomington community at large, to advocate for high quality educational programs for all learners, and to assure the implementation of the district and special education mission to all students in the Bloomington Public Schools.

The Wellness Committee provides support to schools to implement the Wellness Policy and Guidelines. The committee develops and provides tools and resources about wellness and shares wellness initiatives across the district.
