Jefferson High School students can join a wide variety of clubs and activities and even start a club of their own.

Joining a Club

Look through the list of clubs below. Email the advisor for any club you are interested in to learn more and to sign up.

Starting a New Club

Students can submit an application to their school to form a new school, independent or non-curricular (limited open forum) club. The deadline each year is always the last Friday in September.

There are three steps to applying:

  1. Identify the type of club or group (School / Independent Provider / Non-Curricular (Limited Open Forum))
  2. Recruit students to be members and an adult staff advisor
  3. Fill out the appropriate application materials and submit them to the high school activities office for approval

To remain active, club applications must be renewed each year and members must meet at least twice each trimester. Clubs removed due to inactivity will need to have a new application submitted to be reinstated.

Types of Clubs

Clubs fall under one of three categories: school club, non-curricular club (limited open forum), and independent club. Click the tabs below to learn more and find the application for each.

School clubs are the most common offering for students. School clubs cannot duplicate an existing school district activity, must meet during non-instructional time and have a minimum of 15 participants. School clubs may have the opportunity to compete with other high schools and may provide ways for students to earn a letter similar to other school district activities.

Application Materials:

Advisor Responsibilities Form

Non-Curricular clubs (limited open forums) are student-led groups that may be political, religious, philosophical and/or support a cause. These clubs must meet during non-instructional time and have a minimum of 15 participants. As these are student-led clubs, the beliefs and viewpoints are not necessarily representative of Bloomington Public Schools.

An independent club is an individual, group or organization that provides an opportunity for students to participate in an extra-curricular program. They are typically athletic activities that are not offered directly by the school. The club must include a team component and public competition where the club competes with other high school teams in a league or regularly scheduled contests. Independent clubs can give the opportunity for students to earn a letter.

Application Process and Materials:

The high schools meet in August and January each year to consider applications submitted by independent groups. The following materials should be completed and submitted to the high school activities office.

Before the Season

  1. Independent Club Application (yearly)
  2. Independent Club Personnel Form
  3. Independent Club Student Registration Form - Students complete this and submit it to the coach/advisor. Students are not allowed to compete until it has been submitted.
  4. Independent Club Roster
  5. Independent Club Schedule

After the Season

  1. Independent Club Post Season Report
  2. Independent Club Awards Report

Registration is required for these activities.
