Jefferson softball team finishes season as state runner-up

The Jefferson High School softball team played in their first-ever MSHSL Class 4A state championship game June 6 at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus.

While the Jaguars lost the game 6-0 to Champlin Park, the season was full of highlights. Sophomore Brooke Borwege, freshman Alex Oerther, and junior Grace Rolek made the state all-tournament team. Jefferson won the Section 2AAAA championship, the Metro West Conference championship, and boasted an overall 25-3 record this season.

The Jaguars advanced to the state championship game for the first time in five state tournament appearances by beating top-seeded Forest Lake 3-2 in the semifinal round.
