Jefferson Theatre Company presents ‘Once Upon A Mattress’
Jefferson Theatre Company presents its spring musical ‘Once Upon A Mattress’ April 17-19 and April 24-25 in the Jefferson High School auditorium, 4001 W. 102nd St.
Once Upon A Mattress is a delightful comedy for all ages. In this retelling of ‘The Princess and the Pea,’ a far-away kingdom struggles against a marriage ban. The queen won’t permit anyone to marry until her son marries a suitable princess, but she rejects every eligible princess through a series of elaborate royalty tests, leaving the kingdom’s residents frustrated. Then, Princess Winnifred arrives, a noblewoman of the swamp whose freewheeling displays of strength clash with the queen. Fun fact: Once Upon A Mattress is the musical that made legendary comedian Carol Burnett famous.
The show features a cast and crew of more than 80 students. As a special bonus, children in the audience can have their picture taken with the princesses after the show, including Princess Winnifred, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Ariel, and Cinderella. Costumes are encouraged.
