Jefferson twins finish neck and neck at state cross country meet

Twin brothers Alexander and Patrick Altstatt (Alexander wearing bib number 667, Patrick wearing bib number 668) crossing the finish line at the 2024 state cross country meet.

Twin brothers on the Jefferson Boys Cross Country team cracked the top 30 out of 160 runners at the Class AAA state meet held Nov. 2 at the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course.

Junior Alexander Altstatt was the fastest runner for the team, finishing the 5000 meter run in 26th place with a time of 16:16.2, followed closely by his twin brother, junior Patrick Altstatt (29th, 16:17.3). Other team finishers include junior Logan Young (70th, 16:42.3), followed by senior Miles Bassett (133rd, 17:23.7), junior Conor Sweeney (134th, 17:29.5), senior Owen Woods (140th, 17:40.5), and junior Charles Moen (156th, 18:17.7). The team qualified for state by placing second at the section meet and finished 11th out of 16 teams at state.

Four athletes from the Jefferson Girls Cross Country team also competed as individuals in the Class AAA state meet. Junior Amelia Borgen placed 63rd with a time of 19:41.1, followed by junior Avery Rich (68th, 19:42.5), senior Megan Schrooten (118th, 20:35.0) and junior Vivian Krhin (129th, 20:41.5).
