Jefferson’s Conor Sweeney named finalist for Triple ‘A’ Award

Jefferson High School senior Conor Sweeney is a Region 3AA finalist for this year’s Academics, Arts and Athletics (Triple ‘A’) Award. Each year high school seniors are selected for their participation in Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) sponsored arts and athletics while maintaining high academic standing. 

Seniors Lily Heisel (Jefferson) and Samia Mohamud and Gabriel Knutson (Kennedy) were also nominees for this year’s awards program.

Sweeney participates in orchestra, cross country (all-conference, team captain, state qualifier), nordic skiing (all-conference, team captain, state qualifier), and track & field while maintaining a 4.21 GPA.

Heisel participates in orchestra (all-conference), choir, tennis (all-conference and team captain), and theater while maintaining a 4.08 GPA.

Mohamud participates in speech and debate (team captain as a junior), lacrosse (team captain), badminton and robotics. She is one of this year’s student school board representatives. Mohamud maintains a 3.88 GPA and is in the top 50 of her class.

Knutson has participated in orchestra, visual arts, show choir, robotics, speech (all-conference, state qualifier), tennis and cross country. He maintains a 4.25 GPA and is in the top 10 of his class.

Sweeney and other finalists will be honored at an on-court ceremony during the boys’ State Basketball Tournament in March. Four winners will be selected to receive a four-year $1,000 scholarship.
