Kennedy hockey plays final home game

The Kennedy boys hockey team played its final home game on Feb. 8 at the Bloomington Ice Garden. Kennedy will join the Jefferson hockey team as a co-op program for the 2025-26 season.
Celebrating 60 seasons, Bloomington Kennedy, long associated with the phrase “East Side Pride,” has made seven state tournament appearances and won the state championship in 1987. The Eagles finished second in 1984. The team produced several college and professional players.

A ceremony was held before Saturday’s game that included a symbolic “flooding of the ice” where Kennedy players poured cups of water onto the ice. Former head coach Dave Dillon (2009-2016) returned for a ceremonial final puck drop. Kennedy principal Molly Hollenbeck spoke before the game acknowledging the team’s history, coaching staff, families, and thanking players for their dedication.
“Every day, I get to see you be amazing humans in school and it has been my honor and privilege to watch you on the ice. You all had a choice of where you could play hockey in this community, and you chose home,” said principal Hollenbeck.

After the game, the team took one final skate around the rink on home ice to close out the night.
The Eagles end their regular season, dubbed as the "Farewell Tour," with an away game on Saturday, Feb. 15. Watch the final home game and a special ceremony on BEC-TV.
