Bloomington Educational Community Television (BEC-TV) recently won two Student Production Awards from the Upper Midwest Emmy Foundation for their coverage of Bloomington high school hockey and football.

Their Oct. 14, 2025 episode of Inside Jefferson Football won the Sports Program award, and the final Battle of Bloomington boys hockey game won the award for Live Sports Coverage. Both programs will advance to the National Student Production Awards later this year.

Students Andrew Marotz, Thomas Fyler, and Brayden Kinney (Jefferson), and Ian Ries (Kennedy) accepted the awards on behalf of the BEC-TV crews, along with director Tom Ringdal.

BEC-TV is an award-winning, student-driven community television network serving Bloomington. Its programs, produced by students in grades 7-12, are aired on local cable channels and streamed online, providing real-world production experience for students while offering quality content.
