Bloomington Career and College Academy prepares students with college credits and certifications

Bloomington Career and College Academy (BCCA) students earned college credits and certifications and saved approximately $390,774 by taking college-level coursework through BCCA in the 2019-20 school year.
BCCA student accomplishments:
- 24 students completed the first semester of the automotive technician program at Hennepin Technical College (HTC), for a cost savings of $2,880 per student. Four will complete the certificate program at HTC next year through our Transition 2 College (T2C) program.
- 109 students completed coursework in cosmetology, saving approximately $765 per class. Three students completed six cosmetology courses saving approximately $4,590 each.
- One cosmetology student completed all the required hours to become a certified nail technician in the state of Minnesota.
- 22 students took information technology courses, two of whom will be completing a cybersecurity certificate at HTC through the T2C program next year.
- 13 students took the emergency medical responder course. Each student saved $540 and had the opportunity to earn a CPR and EMR certificate.
- Eight students completed health unit coordinator (HUC) courses, each student saving $1,980. Two students will be completing the HUC certification through the T2C program at HTC next school year.
- 25 students took the nursing assistant/home health aide class, for a cost savings of $900 per student. This course offers the opportunity to become a certified nursing assistant through the state of Minnesota.
- 47 students completed criminal justice/law enforcement coursework for a cumulative cost savings of $42,204.
- Five students completed the motion control program at HTC this school year, each earning 12 credits and saving $2,160. Four students will complete the Fluid Power Technician diploma program at HTC through T2C next year.
- 19 students took the construction apprenticeship preparedness course.
BCCA career pathways include automotive technology, building and construction trades, cosmetology, criminal justice/law enforcement, emergency medical responder, nursing assistant/home health aide, health unit coordinator, information technology and advanced engineering and manufacturing technology.
