Three Bloomington high school students will advance to the state tournament following the team's strong showing at last week’s MSHSL Congress Section Tournament.

The state tournament bound students are Jefferson senior Darian Whittet, the runner-up in section 4, senior Amal Mohamed (Jefferson) and sophomore Addison Wendt (Kennedy) who both received an at-large bid.

Student Congress wrote pieces of legislation to debate with students authoring a variety of bills such as giving Hawaii independence as a state and paying residents reparations, housing policy, suffrage for prisoners and increasing the minimum wage.

Whittet, Mohamed and Wendt will participate in the state tournament Jan. 13-14 at the University of Minnesota.
