Bloomington show choirs boast record-breaking seasons
Jefferson and Kennedy high school show choirs delivered exceptional performances this season, highlighted by repeated success in competition and a remarkable national achievement.
Kennedy senior Indigo Gabriel set a new national record for the most career solo awards by a high school show choir performer. Gabriel earned six solo awards this season, bringing their career total to 16 and surpassing the previous record of 11.
In addition to this milestone, Kennedy’s Rhythm in Gold (RIG), along with Jefferson’s varsity and junior varsity choirs Connection and JIVE, and Jefferson’s Show Band earned numerous top honors throughout the season, with some achievements also making the record books.
More Record Highlights:
- RIG has been invited as the opening performance at the national Showchoir Camps of America in June 2026, a first for a BPS show choir.
- RIG broke the record for most consecutive wins in BPS show choir history with five back-to-back competition wins.
- For the first time, the JIVE Show Band earned a competition overall 'Best Band' award.
- For the first and second time ever, RIG and Connection each won grand championships on the same day at different competitions (Jan. 24 and Feb. 28.)
- For the first time in 19 years, Connection made it to finals at every competition for three years in a row.
- For the second time in program history, JIVE made it to finals three times in a single season, by scoring higher than competing varsity groups.
