Bloomington’s Olympians
Bloomington Public Schools has produced several Olympians over the years. In the spirit of the 2024 Summer Olympics, BEC-TV has been featuring archived video recordings of sporting events that include students who went on to compete in the Olympics on its Facebook page. In their research, the BEC-TV team found Olympians dating back to the 1960s.
While footage isn’t available for all of them, here are eight Olympians who hailed from Bloomington Public Schools.
Tom Gray
Bloomington High School, Class of 1964
Competed in speed skating in two Winter Olympic games, finishing 14th in 1964 (Innsbruck) and 21st in 1968 (Grenoble).
Craig Lincoln
Lincoln High School, Class of 1968 (unconfirmed)
Competed in diving, winning the bronze medal in the 1972 Olympic games in Munich.
Brian Bungum
Jefferson High School, Class of 1973
Bungum made the 1980 Olympic team in diving, but the U.S. boycotted the Moscow Olympic games that year.
John Morgan
Kennedy High School, Class of 1981
One of two brothers to have competed in wrestling in the Olympics, John Morgan finished seventh in the 1988 Olympic games in Seoul.
Gordy Morgan
Kennedy High School, Class of 1985
One of two brothers to have competed in wrestling in the Olympics, Gordy Morgan finished ninth in the 1996 Olympic games in Atlanta.

Jefferson High School, Class of 1994
Competed in hockey with the team finishing eighth in the 2006 Olympic games in Turin.

Mike Keuler
Jefferson High School, transferred to Lake Placid H.S. to train. Graduated 1996.
Competed in ski jumping and finished 12th in the 1998 Olympic games in Nagano.
Ryan Stoa
Kennedy High School, transferred to National Hockey Team Development program in 2003. Graduated in 2005.
Competed in hockey with the team finishing seventh in the 2018 Olympic games in Pyeongchang.
