BPS Hosts Inaugural State of the Schools

Bloomington Public Schools (BPS) hosted its inaugural State of the Schools on April 15. The engaging event focused on the powerful impact of community partnerships in education and how the district’s Strategic Plan, academic programs and financial strategies are preparing students to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
School Board chair Matt Dymoke, Superintendent Dr. Eric Melbye, district leaders, staff, parents and advocates spoke about the strong state of our schools. Speakers covered the five goals of the district’s Strategic Plan, illustrating how they serve as the framework to ensure every decision helps students thrive and find their purpose; and helps staff feel supported, valued and empowered to do the life-changing work they do every day. The event also featured student and staff voices and glimpses into our schools through live performances and video.
Dr. Melbye shared insight on what’s ahead for the district including the transition of Washburn Elementary into an early childhood center, the construction of stadium facilities at each high school, and Bloomington Ice Garden renovations. He also spoke about challenges that lay ahead during uncertain times, with reassurance that BPS is stronger than any challenge that comes our way.
