Elementary schools host kindergarten welcome events

Families with children starting kindergarten in the 2025-26 school year are invited to attend a kindergarten welcome event to tour their school, meet teachers and learn more about the kindergarten experience. A district-wide virtual kindergarten preview will be held Monday, Nov. 4 from 6-7:30 p.m.

New families can view important information, checklists and timelines to help with the kindergarten registration process on the district kindergarten webpage at bit.ly/bps-kinder.

Welcome events held at our schools are scheduled as follows:

  • Hillcrest School Choice Lottery and Info Night, Oct. 29, 6 - 7 p.m.
  • Hillcrest Community School Open House, Feb. 11, 6 - 7 p.m.
  • Indian Mounds Elementary School, Jan. 30, 6 - 7 p.m.
  • Normandale Hills Elementary School, Jan. 23, 6 - 7 p.m.
  • Oak Grove Elementary School, Jan. 23, 6 - 7 p.m.
  • Olson Elementary School, Jan. 23, 6 - 7 p.m.
  • Poplar Bridge Elementary School, Jan. 28, 6 - 7 p.m.
  • Ridgeview Elementary School, Feb. 6, 6 - 7 p.m.
  • Valley View Elementary School, Jan. 23, 6 - 7 p.m.
  • Westwood Elementary School, Jan. 30, 6 - 7 p.m.
  • New Code Academy - Virtual Q&A sessions Jan. 30
    • 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. and 6 - 6:30 p.m.

Pending school board approval Oct. 28, starting in the 2025-26 school year, Washburn Elementary School will become the Washburn Early Learning Center. The Washburn attendance area will join the Poplar Bridge, Normandale Hills and Valley View elementary school communities. Incoming kindergarten families in the Washburn attendance area will be notified of their 25-26 school boundary by mail.
