Jefferson skier boasts impressive state finish
Jefferson High School senior Avery Rich placed second at the state Nordic ski meet held Feb. 11-12 at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik.
Rich finished second in the girls pursuit race with a time of 31:43.6, three seconds faster than her 9th place finish in the state meet as a junior. This is the highest-placing state finish for Jefferson Girls Nordic since 1987.
“This season has meant so much to me because it reflects all the hard work I’ve put in over the past few years,” Rich said. “I’ve learned a lot about pushing myself and staying confident during races. I’m very proud of what I accomplished and grateful for my coaches, teammates, and family who supported me all season.”
“Avery fell in love with Nordic skiing in 7th grade and she has tirelessly worked her way to becoming one of the best in the state,” said Bloomington Nordic Ski Coach Jack Collis. “We are very proud and look forward to seeing how she progresses as a skier for Bates College next year.”
The Bloomington Nordic Boys Sprint Relay Team, consisting of Jefferson seniors Conor Sweeney and Logan Young, finished 5th at the state meet.
