Jefferson Theatre Company receives Spotlight honors for ‘Les Misérables’

Jefferson Theatre Company’s production of “Les Misérables” received numerous honors from Spotlight Education, a program of the Hennepin Theatre Trust. The cast will perform a musical selection from the show at the Spotlight Showcase Tuesday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the State Theatre.

The production received outstanding recognition in overall production, vocal performance, costume crew, run crew, overall technical team, and light crew. Achievement in musical theatre, overall performance, ensemble performance, acting performance, dance performance, and sound crew received honorable mentions.

In the category of technical leadership, the following students received outstanding recognition: Riley Manwarren for stage management, Elise Lee and Juliet Klapak for costumes, Dena Diggins and Sorin Czoschke as deck captains, and Al Sevcik as board operator. Abby Dickhut received an honorable mention for her work as sound board operator.

Outstanding performances in a leading role included Maddie Michaels as Fantine, Tina Bagheri as Eponine, Ethan Nelson as Thenardier, and Gabrielle Stockton as Madame Thenardier. Honorable mentions in leading roles were awarded to Elias Caspari as Jean Valjean, Zoey Edeburn as Cosette, and Aidan Busse as Javert. Ronan Koll and Sam DeToffol received evaluator shout-outs.

Spotlight Education is active in more than 100 high schools throughout Minnesota and works to enhance arts curricula through production assessments, workshops and access to quality theater education. Their annual Spotlight Showcase is Minnesota’s largest celebration of high school theater.
