Kennedy High School senior Marlon Seahorn Jr. is celebrating a milestone soccer season. He and the Kennedy varsity team broke longstanding school records and Seahorn earned many individual accolades for his talent on the field.
Seahorn scored his 55th high school career goal in August, breaking a 55-year-old all-time scoring record at Kennedy. Seahorn’s final all-time scoring record now stands at 90 goals. He finished the season second in the state for scoring among Class AAA players with 38 goals and 15 assists.
Seahorn earned numerous accolades this season including team MVP, All-Conference, Tri-Metro Conference Player of the Year, Star Tribune All-Minnesota Boys Soccer Player of the Year, multiple Star Tribune Athlete of the Week honors, Star Tribune Boys Soccer Preseason Dream Team, and was selected for the All-American game in South Carolina this December.

“I’m proud of breaking the record, but I am most proud of what I am leaving behind and the influence I have on the younger guys,” said Seahorn.
“Marlon is an exceptional talent, but what stands out most is who he is as a teammate. There were many moments where he passed up scoring opportunities so teammates could score. That speaks to his character. He’s a leader, a game-changer and a rare player with a very bright future ahead of him,” said head coach Brayan Lopez.
The team recorded an undefeated streak of 14 matches (counting wins and ties), which is the longest run and strongest regular season for Kennedy since at least 2011. The team finished the season in the quarterfinal round of the Section 6AAA tournament with an overall record of 13-2-1.
“This season was truly special. From Marlon breaking the school scoring record, to opening our new stadium, to the growth in the number of players who wanted to be part of the program, it has been a big step forward for Kennedy soccer as we continue to build,” said Lopez.
Players Andres Chaves, Brandon Cruz Rojas and Damian Espinoza joined Seahorn in earning All-Conference honors and Jacob Holtz was named Section 6AAA Assistant Coach of the Year.
