Parent Speaker Series: Preventing School Violence and Supporting Student Well-Being
The Bloomington Parent and Family Advisory Council is hosting a timely and relevant educational event for families as part of their Parent Speaker Series. “Awareness to Action: Building a Culture of Safety and Care,” will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Oak Grove Middle School auditorium, 1350 W. 106th St., Bloomington, MN 55431 (enter through Door #5).
The event will focus on how schools and families can work together to recognize early warning signs of distress or potential violence and take supportive, preventative action before a crisis occurs.
Speakers Rick Kaufman, APR, executive director of emergency management, and Jen Fielder, school psychologist, both with Bloomington Public Schools, along with Holly Ryan, school psychologist and threat assessment specialist for Lakeville Area Schools, bring extensive experience in school safety, crisis response, and the development of behavioural threat assessment protocols in K–12 schools.
The event is free and open to the public. Due to the sensitive nature of the content, the program is intended for adults only. Childcare will be provided, and Spanish and Somali interpreters will be available at the event. Call 952-681-6400 or email Bloomington.Parent.Family@gmail.com
