School Board Meeting Recap: Oct. 27, 2025

The School Board held its regular business meeting on Monday, October 27, 2025.

Meeting Highlights

  • Student Board Representatives provided exciting updates from both high schools, highlighting student accomplishments, school events, and areas of focus for staff this year. Our new student representatives are already making a strong impression and were actively engaged in board discussions.
  • The School Board approved an agreement with Urban Landscape to upgrade the Kennedy High School Courtyard. The Kennedy Green Club had a big role in this effort and many students are excited to see the improvements to the courtyard.
  • The School Board heard discussion about a proposal for an e-sports club at Kennedy High School. This was brought forward by students to give more students options to be involved in a school activity. Great discussion on the topic. It was approved as a pilot program; administration will provide updates as it progresses.
  • An agreement with Child Trends was approved, to study productive use of AI among middle and high school students. We will work to clearly define “productive use of AI” and develop PD to empower students and staff in the safe and informed use of AI in BPS.
  • The Board approved budget adjustments of $5 million for each of the next two school years. Earlier projections had called for larger reductions due to enrollment declines and funding challenges, but preliminary audit results and updated forecasts allowed the district to lower those targets. Identifying these reduced adjustments early provides greater stability and clarity as we plan for the future.
