School Board Meeting Recap: Sept. 22, 2025

The School Board held its regular business meeting on Monday, September 22, 2025.
Meeting Highlights
- Jefferson junior Elsa Ackerman and Kennedy senior Samia Mohamud were sworn in as this year’s student school board representatives. Both are committed to making sure every student feels heard, valued and represented in board discussions.
- The School Board heard a report about the thousands of students who benefited from summer programming across the district including:
- Summer Quest provided engaging and impactful learning experiences for nearly 730 elementary students, serving 18% of the district’s elementary enrollment.
- Musical theatre productions of James and the Giant Peach and Anastasia were delightful and included more than 120 student performers.
- Our summer high school credit recovery program served students needing to make up required credits, with 78% of students earning credits toward graduation.
- More than 500 students attended our Camp SAFARI full-day childcare program.
- Community Education youth enrichment programs including a variety of classes, camps, SLAM Camps, and aquatics had a combined total of more than 1,600 enrollments.
- The School Board approved high school commencement ceremonies to be held Friday, June 5, 2026 at U.S. Bank Stadium. Kennedy’s graduation ceremony is at 2 p.m. followed by Jefferson’s at 6:30 p.m.
- The School Board approved the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) resolution advocating for the Minnesota Department of Education to create a pilot program allowing students enrolled in online schools like New Code Academy to remotely and securely take the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA).
