Two Bloomington schools recognized as PBIS Sustaining Exemplars

Indian Mounds Elementary School and Bloomington Transition Center (BTC) have been recognized as Sustaining Exemplar schools by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) for their continued commitment to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

PBIS is a framework for meeting the social, emotional and behavioral needs of students, promoting positive behavior and improving student outcomes. More than 90 schools across the state earned this honor in 2025.

BTC, a program for Bloomington Public Schools students ages 18-22 who benefit from special education services after high school, has now earned the distinction for six consecutive years.

“This honor is a true celebration of our amazing staff and students, whose hard work, heart, and dedication make it all possible,” says BTC Supervisor Robin Bloom.

Indian Mounds Elementary is being recognized for the third time.

“We teach students to show safe, truthful, accountable, and respectful (STAR) behavior,” says Indian Mounds Principal Liz Lodermeier. “It’s helped build confidence in students to do their best learning and be the best people they can be in school and beyond.”

Honorees were recognized at a ceremony in August.
