The Bloomington Bookfest event was awarded a Project Award from the Minnesota Community Education Association (MCEA) as an outstanding project.

The Project Award recognizes one-time projects or ongoing programs that exemplify the concept of Community Education and represent excellence in teamwork and cooperation, use of resources, achievement, and community impact.

Bloomington Bookfest is a free event created to promote and encourage reading in young learners and their families. Nearly 400 families attended the first event which included a book fair, readings by local children's book authors Nancy Carlson and Douglas Wood, reading-themed rooms and activities. Each child received a book to take home and had the chance to meet children’s characters Big Bird, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Cookie Monster and Elmo.

The Second Annual Bloomington Bookfest is scheduled from 9 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at Oak Grove Middle School.
