Wellness Policy and Guidelines

In 2017 the Bloomington School District adopted a Wellness Policy. This policy is designed to...
  • improve academic outcomes by supporting/promoting wellness in schools, including healthy eating and physical activity.
  • increase student and staff awareness about healthy choices.
  • provides guidance and consistency across schools in the district.

The policy and guidelines are updated and maintained by the district, with support from the district Wellness Committee.

Schools throughout the U.S. and Minnesota, including our neighboring cities of Edina and Richfield, have implemented wellness policies and initiatives.

The Child Nutrition and Women, Infants and Children Reauthorization Act of 2004 requires all educational entities participating in the National School Lunch Program to establish local school wellness policies. In 2010, the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act regulations added Section 9A to expand upon the previous local wellness policy requirement from the Reauthorization.
