Bloomington Kids’ SAFARI will celebrate its annual Lights On Afterschool event from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3 at Washburn Elementary School, 8401 Xerxes Ave. S.
Elementary students and their families are invited to the free event, which will feature kid-friendly music and dancing, games, face painting and tattoos, snacks, a photo booth and visits from the Bloomington Police and Fire departments.
The celebration, which recognizes and supports after-school programs, is one of more than 7,500 such events around the nation during October and November. This year marks Bloomington’s 14th Lights On Afterschool family event and celebration.
Kids’ SAFARI is an afterschool program serving more than 1,000 students in the district’s 10 elementary schools. The program helps children discover friendship, independence and confidence through art, science, music, sports, academics and recreational activities.
“The Bloomington Kids’ SAFARI program offers a choice of activities from gym games to arts and crafts projects to homework assistance,” said Youth and Family Coordinator Kristie Christiansen. “Lights On Afterschool events help thousands of children join their parents, educators and communities in recognizing the importance of quality after-school programs.”
