Oak Grove Elementary School partners with DNR on goat project

Oak Grove Elementary School will partner with the City of Bloomington and the Department of Natural Resources to allow goats to aid in the removal of buckthorn on school property.

The project will help remove buckthorn growth in the Oak Grove Campus Forest, located near Oak Grove elementary and middle schools.

Goat Dispatch, the owner of the goats, will set a fence for the goats to graze within and will involve students, families and staff in the project, including checking fencing, counting the goats and checking to make sure they have enough water every day. The goats will be grazing starting Nov. 21 for around two weeks, depending on how quickly they eat.

Oak Grove Elementary School utilizes its DNR-certified school forest, outdoor classroom and school gardens to integrate outdoor learning opportunities for its students.
