Jefferson teacher named semifinalist for MN Teacher of the Year

Jefferson High School language arts teacher Nick Hupton has been selected as one of 25 semifinalists for Education Minnesota's 2021 Minnesota Teacher of the Year program.

Semifinalists were selected from a group of 200 nominations by a panel of 25 education, community and business leaders. The panel will select a group of 7-10 finalists in late March, with the Minnesota Teacher of the Year announced later this spring.

Hupton is in his 22nd year teaching and 13th at Jefferson. Hupton is the advisor for the Jefferson Literary Magazine and a member of the Jefferson and district diversity committees. He is an author and has had three young adult novels published by North Star Press, Inc.

He has a Bachelor's degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in English/secondary education and a Master's degree from Hamline University in liberal studies and creative writing.
