Jefferson students awarded National Recognition

Jefferson seniors Gabrielle Denniston, Amal Mohamed and junior Kayla Garrett earned the National African American Recognition award for academic achievements and outstanding scores in Advanced Placement (AP) exams. In addition, Garrett received the National Indigenous Award. The awards are used by colleges to identify academically competitive underrepresented students.

Denniston, Garrett and Mohamed were acknowledged by the College Board National Recognition program. The National Recognition program grants underrepresented students an academic honor as honorees apply for college and scholarship applications. 

For award eligibility, students must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and excel on the PSAT/NMSQT, or earn a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP Exams; identify as an African American or Black, Hispanic American or Latinx, Indigenous, or attend school in a rural area or small town.
