Heather Starks was selected to chair the Bloomington School Board for the 2023 term during the board’s annual organizational meeting this week. Starks, first elected to the School Board in 2019, served as vice chair last year. Other officers are Dawn Steigauf, vice chair; Mia Olson, clerk; and Matt Dymoke, treasurer.

School board members also confirmed appointments to a number of state and regional committees:

  • Beth Beebe and Olson to the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) as legislative liaisons.
  • Nelly Korman and Olson to the Association of Metropolitan School Districts (AMSD)
  • Tom Bennett to the Intermediate District 917 Board
  • Dymoke to the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL)

The Bloomington School Board agreed to a change in its meeting schedule and format. Study sessions are held at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month. The Board’s listening session for public comment will remain on the second Monday of each month, and precede the study session. The regular business meeting will begin at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month. The third Monday of the month will be reserved for a study session, regular meeting, professional development or a combination if needed.

The next School Board meeting is at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23. All regular meetings are covered live by BEC-TV and can be seen via live stream, Apple TV, Roku and Cable. For more information, visit bloomington.k12.mn.us/school-board.
