Are you looking for highly engaging learning activities for your kids and family this summer? Bloomington Public Schools and Community Education have a robust selection of summer 2024 academic and enrichment programs, offering childcare and camps for kids and classes for all ages.

From summer preschool and Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) classes, Summer SLAM activities, childcare for elementary-aged children, aquatics, Driver’s education, high school credit recovery, adult enrichment, music lessons and more, families are sure to find a class or activity to try.

Early Childhood Programs

  • ECFE Summer Classes: 1.5 hour session classes  meet once a week on either Tuesday or Wednesday. Classes this year are Families in the Park, Walk and Talk and ECFE Friends. All classes are mixed ages. Sliding fee scale.
  • Early Head Start for toddlers and preschoolers located at Pond and Southwood.
  • Extended School Year ECSE: Four week program M-Th mornings in July for children who will be attending Bloomington’s Extended School Year Inclusion program through Special Education. M-Th, July 8-Aug. 1.
  • Kamp Kinder: Four week program M-Th mornings, recommended for children who will be attending BPS Kindergarten in the fall. Includes free transportation and breakfast. Sliding fee scale. M-Th, July 8-Aug. 1.
  • Fantastic Fours: Four week program M-Th mornings for children who will be attending BPS 4-year-old preschool in the fall. Breakfast included, sliding fee scale. M-Th, July 8-Aug. 1.
  • Bridge to Preschool: Once a week for four weeks to help children and families get ready to attend preschool in the fall. Sliding fee scale.

Elementary Programs

  • SLAM (Summer of Laughs, Adventures and More): Community Education’s 4-day fee-based sports, enrichment and recreation camps and classes.  Meets Monday - Thursday.
  • GRASP (Correspondence Course: Fee-based, reading and math correspondence or online classes.
  • Bloomington Youth Enrichment and Music Lessons (other than SLAM programs)
  • Elementary Summer Quest: Four-week summer school based on teacher recommendation. (Full for summer 2024)
  • Camp SAFARI June 5 - Aug. 16: Full-day, fee-based childcare for preschool to grade 6 with themed programming and  weekly field trips. Includes breakfast and snack daily.
  • Summit SAFARI June 5 - Aug. 16: Full-day, fee-based childcare for grades 5-6, with themed programming and weekly field trips. Includes breakfast and snack daily.
  • Super SAFARI Aug. 19-21: Full-day, fee-based childcare for grades K-6. Includes breakfast and snack daily.
  • Camp Invention: Fee-based, fun, hands-on science and creativity day camp taught by licensed teachers. To register call 952-681-6108 or visit campinvention.org

Middle and High School Programs

  • Summer Galaxy: Fee-based youth program that includes service learning projects, weekly field trips and other daily activities. Breakfast and lunch provided daily. Transportation is not included. June 17-Aug. 2.
  • Summer Musical: Fee-based opportunity for youth. Auditions in May, performances held July 27-30.
  • Driver’s Education: Classroom Instruction and behind-the-wheel package includes two-week classes of 30 hours of classroom instruction. The behind-the-wheel training includes three two-hour sessions.
  • Choice Academy Summer Program: Open to 12th grade students needing to complete their diploma requirements.
  • Beacon Alternative Learning Program credit recovery and Kennedy online summer PE/Health class.
  • Metro South Adult Basic Education: Adult Diploma, GED/College Prep, Adult ESL
  • Extended School Year, Bloomington Transition Center Work Experience: Enrichment opportunities for students receiving special education services. Work experience internships for students working on building employment skills, advocacy and independence. Referral only.

Community Programs

  • Bloomington Community Education Aquatics: Fee-based swimming lessons, open/lap swim, aqua Zumba and water fitness classes, water safety instructor classes and lifeguard training. Ages 6-months to adult.
  • Bloomington Adult Enrichment: Adult Enrichment classes for adults ages 16 and older.
