Middle School Students Advance to State History Day Competition

Oak Grove and Olson middle schools had nine students advance to the State History Day contest held at the University of Minnesota in April. Seven students made it to the final round of competition:

  • Audrey Gaul and Maya Skibbie (OGMS) - Third Place and Topic Award Winner 
  • Eleanor Bowman (OGMS) - Honorable Mention and Topic Award Winner
  • Molly Cosgrove (OMS) - Honorable Mention
  • Albert Schmitt (OMS) - Honorable Mention
  • Serrah Ssemukutu (OGMS) - Honorable Mention
  • Milo Thompson (OMS) - Honorable Mention

In total, 116 sixth and seventh grade Dimensions Academy students participated in National History Day this year. They chose a topic related to this year’s theme, Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas. Students worked individually or in pairs to research primary and secondary sources, organize their findings, and present their projects at the local level. Judges selected forty-five students to advance to the regional competition in March, and nine continued to the state level.
