Young adults complete Bloomington Transition Center programs

Dozens of young adults in Bloomington Transition Center (BTC) programs completed their transition programming and are moving on from an education setting to live and work independently in our community.

Fourteen students completed their transition programming from BTC’s Class of 2023. The program serves students aged 18-21 who benefit from special education services after they’ve completed high school, and demonstrate independence in community-based settings. 

Graduating is an emotional and life-changing accomplishment for many of these students. Students spoke about how they received support from staff to gain employment, participate in a post-secondary training program and how BTC helped them find apartments.

Twelve students completed transition programming from BTC’s Transitional Ed Service Alternative (TESA) program, which is run by Intermediate School District 917. TESA helps young adults transition into areas including independent living, employment, and post-secondary education.

Four students completed BTC’s Project SEARCH internship program at Embassy Suites Minneapolis Airport. Students work and learn from hotel staff and are immersed in the engineering, food and beverage, housekeeping, laundry, and HR/marketing/finance departments. The goal of the internship is for students to gain marketable work skills to help them find competitive integrated employment within the community.
