Greetings Second Grade Family,
I’m Nicholas Schmidt, your child’s second grade teacher. I’m very excited to begin the 2020-2021 school year. This will be my 14th year in education. I got my Elementary Education Degree at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. From there I got my first teaching job in Casa Grande, Arizona, teaching second grade. I was there for three and a half years. The summer heat and lack of seasons became too much and I was ready to move back home! When I moved to Minnesota I taught second grade for two years at Valley View Elementary in Bloomington. From there, I moved back to Olson (where I did my student teaching in kindergarten and third). I sure have been lucky at keeping second grade. I absolutely love this grade! All the moving that I have done has helped me learn new ideas and strategies from wonderfully talented staff and professional development I attended to continually push me to be a better educator for your child.
Outside of the workday I love to keep busy, but also will not pass up relaxing with a donut and coffee! I love to play tennis and exercise at the gym and outside. Game nights are one of my favorite things to do with my family and friends. I also enjoy reading, trying new food (especially desserts!), and going to waterparks.
I’m very excited about the new school year and getting to know you and your second grader. Please feel free to call or email me anytime with questions you might have. I know it’s going to be a terrific year!
