Oak Grove Elementary breakfast unites generations for Veterans Day

Oak Grove Elementary students shared Veterans Day with their grandparents and family members for the school’s annual Grandparents and Grand Friends Breakfast, which included a flag raising ceremony to honor the veterans who were present.
Students shared donuts with their families and provided a tour of their school. Students, staff and guests gathered outside at the flagpole, walking through a tunnel of American flags held by students. Students in Cub Scout Pack 3434 raised the American and Minnesota flags and led the crowd in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

The school welcomed 18 veterans from Oak Grove’s extended school community, including family members from Fond du Lac, WI and Michigan. Principal Brian Cline presented each veteran with a thank you note written by kindergarten students. One veteran and grandfather teared up by the recognition, shared with Principal Cline, “Thanks for teaching the kids to not forget about us.”
Many schools in the district hold Veterans Day observances each year. Bloomington Public Schools extends a thank you to all military veterans for their service, especially local veterans who continue to serve our community, students and schools.
