Welcome to Washburn
Dear Students and Parents:
Welcome to Washburn Elementary School! The entire staff is looking forward with enthusiasm and anticipation to the new school year. We have a wonderful group of caring and dedicated employees who set high expectations for themselves and our students daily. Our district Mission, Vision, and Beliefs guide all that we do to educate our students. We are eager to work with you and your child in providing a meaningful learning experience. We encourage parents to become involved in their child's education. Stop in to visit the classroom and meet your child's teachers.
The ultimate goal of education is to help each student become a contributing member of our society. By developing a strong work ethic and accepting responsibility and accountability for their actions, students will prepare themselves for their role in the world of tomorrow. Students are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of activities to help them realize this goal. Remember, your success in school as well as life will be directly proportional to your efforts.
Washburn Elementary is a wonderful place for students to learn and grow. We have a terrific community of parents and businesses that provide support for all of our activities. As principal, I look forward each day to greeting our students and visiting their classrooms for I know "Focused Teaching and Focused Learning" will occur.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call the elementary office
Have a great year!
Mr. Andrew Wilkins
Learn a little more about Mr. Wilkins
I grew up in southern Minnesota, where my parents worked hard to provide for our family. Fairmont, MN was a place where I could play ball at the local field from sun up to sun down, play hide and seek in the dark until late in the evening and drop a line in the water whenever things got boring.
My parents' quest for a better life for our family brought us to the Twin Cities - Metro area during my formative junior high years. It was sports and a drive to succeed that brought me to education as a career choice.
When I was in school, I participated in baseball, football, and wrestling. I also found time to work part-time jobs to pay for the little extras along the way. As kids, we enjoyed biking, camping, fishing, swimming, and being young.
I live in the southern suburbs with my wife, Jody and three children, Kaylee, Owen and Emma. Jody is a Registered Nurse doing home health care. We also have a Pug named Gus. He can be more work than three kids, at times.
Kaylee loves working with little kids, archery, volleyball and texting on her phone. Owen is all-boy and loves to play Lacrosse, football, hockey, and fish with dad. Emma is my teacher-in-training. She loves to read, play hockey, volleyball and vlog.
My family and I enjoy spending our free time together: camping, fishing, biking, birdwatching, gardening and more.
