Childcare is offered for children in grades K-5 with before- and after-school programs during the school year and full-day programming during the summer. There are also options for preschool childcare.

Kids’ SAFARI is a before- and after-school childcare program for children grades K-5 who reside in or attend an elementary school in Bloomington. The fee-based program offers enrichment opportunities designed to meet the changing needs of children and families. The program includes creative learning experiences designed to increase social interaction and leads children to discover friendship, independence and confidence.

Registration for summer 2026 will open online on March 10 at 8 a.m. 

Camp/Summit SAFARI will run from June 11- August 14, 2026. Super SAFARI will run August 17-19, 2026. Hours for both are 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Summer SAFARI will be closed on June 19 and July 3.

Rates

• Consistent Schedule: $53 per day
• Pick Your Day: $57 per day
• Drop-ins: $61 per day

Locations

Camp SAFARI is for children entering Kindergarten through 4th grade, and will be held at Ridgeview and Valley View Elementary schools.

Summit SAFARI is for children entering 5th and 6th grade, and will be held at Valley View Middle School.

Super SAFARI is for children who have attended Camp or Summit SAFARI and will be held at Normandale Hills Elementary School.

Valley View Elementary and Middle School qualify for the Summer Feed Program and will have free lunch provided.

Preschool SAFARI is a childcare option offered as an addition to preschool classes. Children will have a rest time, active time outside or in a gym, and free-choice activities each day. Non-school day options are also available.

Preschool SAFARI Registration

Registration for Early Camp SAFARI opens on March 10 at 8 a.m.

Registration for the 2026-27 school year is open. 

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must be approved for a preschool class before a childcare contract can be approved.

2025-26 Preschool SAFARI Rates

Care is offered for children attending morning Preschool for Threes and Preschool for Fours classes only.

• Before-class care: $17.50 per day
• After-class care: $28.50 per day

2026 Early Camp SAFARI 

Care is offered to children ages 3-5 who are currently in Bloomington Preschool SAFARI. Early Camp SAFARI will be held at Valley View Elementary school July 11 through August 14. Valley View Elementary qualifies for the Summer Feed Program and will have free lunch provided.

The rate is $275 per week, with only full-week care offered. Hours are 6:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. 

Children registered for kindergarten in the fall of 2026 have the option of attending Camp SAFARI with more contract options.

2026-27 Preschool SAFARI Rates

Care is offered for children accepted for a five-day afternoon Preschool for Fours classes only.

• Before-class care: $32.00 per day, 6:30 a.m. -1:35 p.m.
• After-class care: $14.00 per day, 4:05 - 6 p.m.

The Kids' SAFARI and Preschool SAFARI child care programs have multiple part-time positions available for activity assistants and inclusion staff.  We start hiring at age 16 - great for high school and college students. Get paid to play, and join our team!
