I feel privileged to be in my sixth year of serving as superintendent. This school district has felt like home for many years. I spent 12 years in Bloomington Public Schools as a special education supervisor, executive director of student services and assistant superintendent. It is humbling and an honor to lead a district I have grown to know and love. Bloomington really is a special place. 

Here in Bloomington we are focused on helping students succeed in a rapidly changing world. Every day I see how our schools are a community and home where everyone is welcome, included, supported and loved. This is a community families choose to be part of. From early childhood through graduation and beyond, we are building future-ready instruction and inclusive spaces to meet the needs of students and prepare them for the future. I believe we have the best staff and the resources needed to provide a quality education. I also see how our families partner with us every step of the way, trusting us to teach their children and help them grow as individuals.

I set a theme for each school year. This year's theme of Unite, Inspire, Rise reflects who we are and what we aspire to become as a school community. We Unite by recognizing student success is a shared responsibility that takes caring educators, engaged families, community partners, and students who know they belong. We Inspire through the opportunities we provide to students, allowing them to discover new strengths, encouragement from staff, and pathways to the future they had not imagined. We Rise by meeting challenges with courage and determination to keep moving forward. This is a call to action for each of us to come together around our students, inspire them to believe in themselves and help them rise to their full potential.

I am grateful to begin another school year alongside our dedicated staff, families, School Board and community partners. Together, let’s make this a year to remember.

1. Future Ready Instruction:
   • Assure READ Act implementation is executed in a way that leads to positive student outcomes.
   • Update Pathways to Graduation.
   • Ensure Birth-Age 22 building and program Continuous Improvement Plans address data-informed need areas and align with strategic plan goals.
2. Inclusive Environment:
   • Integrate cultural proficiency into all stages of educator professional learning, including induction, onboarding, Peer Learning Communities (PLCs), and ongoing instructional coaching.
   • Create opportunities for student voice in relevant administrative recommendations to the School Board.
3. Quality Workforce:
   • Ensure execution of the final two years of the GYO program and report on outcomes.
   • Review and strengthen the integration of cultural proficiency across the District, ensuring that each department can clearly demonstrate its integration of culturally proficient practices.
4. Family Partnerships:
   • Execute the Operation Enrollment Plan and report on Birth-Grade 12 outcomes.
   • Create opportunities for community engagement on high-profile issues.
5. Equitable Resources:
   • Develop and present timely,  sustainable budget recommendations.
   • Lead advocacy for Bloomington Public Schools’ legislative priorities at the state and federal level.
