Parent Tip of the Week: New ways to say “Hi”
Helping children understand changes to our everyday routines, like saying “hi” to friends, is important to do before they are facing the situation so they are ready with what to do. It is easier to teach kids what to do first rather than try and change a behavior later. So as we once again see friends and family, try these new ideas of how to say “hi” to friends:
- Blow kisses
- Silly dance
- Wave
- Salute
- “I love you” sign language
- Air high-five
Here are some videos with examples:

The most important thing to keep in mind is that kids are adaptable and will likely be more comfortable with these changes than we are. But it is important to prepare them and keep talking about the way things have changed and be open to hearing their questions.
