Jefferson, Kennedy induct seven members to Athletics Hall of Fame

Jefferson High School

• Haley Bodway, class of 2012, was a six-time letter-winning member of the Jaguars volleyball team. During her tenure, she was a five-time all-conference selection and served as team captain. Bodway also earned four team MVPs and two all-metro and two all-state honoree awards. She continued her collegiate career at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky., as an all-conference selection her senior year with over 1000 collegiate kills.  
• Kari (Henningsgaard) Bollum, class of 1975, participated in swimming, basketball and track. Bollum was a two-time letter winner in swimming as the team captain and earned team MVP as a senior. In 1974, she was the district and regional 50 and 100-meter breaststroke champion. Bollum led the basketball team to a second-place conference finish while being named captain and MVP. She was also a three-time track and field letter winner and conference champion in long jump and high jump. Bollum served as captain and won team MVP her senior year, and currently shares the school record in the high jump. She was the first female athlete from Jefferson to receive an athletic scholarship for the University of Minnesota swimming team after the passing of Title IX in 1972.
• Britney Scherber, class of 2012, competed in volleyball, basketball, and track. As a senior, Scherber was an all-conference honorable mention selection and a team captain on the volleyball team. She played point guard for basketball and still leads as an all-time program leader in points, assists and made three-point shots. Scherber was a three-time all-conference selection, three-time team MVP and two-time team captain. She was named a 2012 Athena Award winner as the school's most outstanding senior female athlete. Scherber attended Minnesota State University, Mankato to continue her basketball career and was named team captain, all-conference and all-academic selection as a senior. 

Kennedy High School

• Debbie Driscoll, class of 1973, was an AAU state champion for floor and vault in gymnastics her senior year. Driscoll then moved on to compete at the collegiate level with Gustavus Adolphus College, becoming a participant in the AIAW National Collegiate Team Championships and an AIAW Regional Floor finalist. She now coaches for Mahtomedi gymnastics, where she has 10 team state championships, 44 state event titles and three state MGGCA Class A Coach of the Year awards. Over her 45 years of coaching, Driscoll has accumulated 40 conference championships, 30 section championships and has been inducted into five halls of fame.
• Robin (Smith) Hanson, class of 1998, joined the tennis, basketball and softball teams in high school. By the end of her senior year, Hanson was a 14-time letter winner in all three sports. She served as team captain, became an all-conference honoree for tennis and an all-conference honorable mention for basketball. Hanson also led the softball team as captain, became a four-time all-conference honoree, made the MN Softball Coaches Association all-academic team and won the MVP award for offense. Academically, she was a member of the National Honors Society, student government and graduated with Honors. Hanson went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, and later the University of St. Mary’s for Education.
• Kristine (Kruger) Kading, class of 2000, was ranked a top-25 soccer player in scoring goals in Minnesota during her four-year athletic career. By her senior year, she was rated first in the conference, a four-time all-conference honoree, made the all-Midwest team, all-metro team three times and all-state team twice. Kading is the all-time scoring leader in program history. She attended the University of Louisville, Ky., and the University of Minnesota, Duluth to pursue her athletic career, where she was named one of top-25 soccer players in program history.
• Jenna Smith, class of 2006, excelled as a member of the 2005 state championship basketball team. She served as team captain as a multiple letter winner and was named Minnesota’s Ms. Basketball in 2006. Smith received a scholarship to play basketball for the University of Illinois, where she became an all-time program leader in scoring, rebounds, shots blocked, double-doubles and games played. Smith is one of four players with 2000 points and 1000 rebounds in Big Ten conference history. She was then selected in the second round of the 2010 WNBA draft by the Washington Mystics.
