High schools induct new Hall of Fame members

It’s a special time of year as our high schools honor the former star athletes, performers and legendary coaches inducted into each school’s Hall of Fame. Congrats to these distinguished alumni!



On Friday, Sept. 8, Jefferson High School added four people to its Athletic & Activities Hall of Fame (left to right in group photo): former coach Rod Daniels, athletes John Prins, Kristin (Jarnes) Strom and musician Steve Fisher. 

Rod Daniels was a longtime teacher and multi-sport coach at Jefferson (soccer (asst)/football (asst)/gymnastics (head)/baseball (head)/track (asst)). He retired after the 1999-2000 school year. His 1983 gymnastics team placed 1st at the state meet.

Kristin (Jarnes) Strom, class of 2004, was a 16-time letter-winning member of the Jefferson swim and dive, gymnastics and softball teams, earning All-Conference honors on all three teams.

John Prins, class of 1974, was a three-time state champion swimmer in the 100-yard backstroke, setting state records each of the three years. He also won a 200 individual medley state championship. He continued his collegiate career at the University of Alabama where he was a three-time All American.

Steve Fisher, class of 1981, participated in the marching band, jazz band and concert band as an award-winning drummer/percussionist. After Jefferson, he attended the University of North Texas where he was a Jazz Studies major.

Friday, Sept. 15 at Bloomington Stadium, Kennedy High School will induct four former athletes into its Athletic Hall of Fame: Leif Carlson, Stacy Godwin Lemke, Wendy Phillips (Godwin) and Jayson Ness.

Leif Carlson, class of 1988, was a national and state champion gymnast who won all six individual events at state in 1986 and set a new state scoring record. He continued his collegiate career at the University of Minnesota where he was a four-year letter winner.

Stacy Godwin Lemke, class of 1977, was a nine-time letter-winning member of the Kennedy volleyball, basketball and track teams, setting a school record in the 110 yard hurdles. She continued her collegiate career at the University of Minnesota on the volleyball and women's crew teams.

Wendy Phillips (Godwin), class of 1978, was a nine-time letter-winning member of the Kennedy volleyball, basketball and track teams, earning All-State and All-Conference honors her junior and senior years. She continued her collegiate career at the University of Minnesota on the volleyball and crew teams.

Jayson Ness, class of 2005, was a two-time state champion wrestler. He continued his collegiate career at the University of Minnesota where he won a national championship and set a school record for pins.
