Bloomington students earn Scholastic Art awards and honors

More than 30 Jefferson and Kennedy students and one Oak Grove Middle School student earned nearly 60 high honors in the 2024 Minnesota Scholastic Arts competition, the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious art recognition program for creative teens. 

This year’s Gold Key award recipients are Jefferson’s Olive Burres, Synnove Erickson, Emma Obada, and Renee Peacha; Kennedy’s Zoe Bradford-Johnson, Christian Garcia Garcia, Audrey Keirstead, Hope Laaksonen, and Camila Pineda Ruiz; and Oak Grove Middle's Clementine Haney.

Silver Key award recipients are Jefferson’s Sam DeToffol, Bella Edwards, Kae Eull, Grace Goodin, Emma Obada, and Ana Sorenson; and Kennedy’s Kyon Chapman, Ashley Hallet, Amanda Hallet, Hope Laaksonen, Evelyn Oliver, Nora Rikansrud, and Michelle Sarpong.

Honorable mentions were given to work created by Jefferson’s Burres, Erickson, Peacha, Delaney Mundt, Keller O’Donnell-Latham, Fiona Raleigh, Shelby Ruhmann, Ana Sorenson, Sage Stirratt and Makien Wenge; and Kennedy’s Garcia, Hallet, Rikansrud, Sarpong, Gisselle Alamilla Dominguez, Paige Cooper, Isabella Dahl, Talon Fischer, Ashley, Sophia Junnila-Holz, Lidiya Kukuk, Jacqueline Lopez Ruiz, Dakota Lueck, Jahydi Sanchez Pascual, and Solomon Taylor.

The highest honor is the Gold Key award awarded to students displaying exceptional creativity, skill and vision. Silver Key honorees demonstrate exceptional ability. Honorable mentions are presented to artists whose work showed great skill and potential. Award-winning pieces included paintings, drawings, illustrations, photographs, digital art, sculptures and ceramics.
