Jefferson Boys Cross Country takes fifth place at state

The Jefferson Boys Cross Country team finished in fifth place at the Class AAA state meet, held Nov. 4 at the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course.

Junior Zack Tapajna was the fastest runner for the team, finishing the 5000 meter run in 28th place with a time of 16:03.2, followed by Alexander Altstatt (37th, 16:13.6), Patrick Altstatt (46th, 16:20.9), Miles Bassett (52nd, 16:23.8), Ian Klein (83rd, 16:38.6), Forrest Noeske (118th, 17:03.3), and Logan Young (150th, 17:29.2). The boys finished their regular season with the team’s first Section 3AAA championship in 39 years.

Three athletes from the Jefferson Girls Cross Country team also competed as individuals in the Class AAA state meet. Senior Maren Myers came in 84th place with a time of 20:05.5, followed by sophomore Avery Rick (88nd, 20:08.7) and junior Megan Schrooten (114th, 20:36.6).
